Welcome to 4th grade!
My name is Sara Walters and this is my 14th year of teaching. I live in Ferndale with my two kids and their/our pets. My daughter Cecelia is a second grader at Lakeside, in Mrs. Harvey's class. My son Quinn will be in Kindergarten here next year, but right now, he goes to pre-school at Pinewoods Tots. Our pets right now are Eileen, our cat (a gray tabby) and the two newest additions - Piper and Brownie, our guinea pigs!
I started teaching when I was 14, teaching swimming, so it's pretty safe to say that I'd wanted to be a teacher since 6th grade. I officially began my academic teaching career in Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer where I conducted in-service teacher training for teachers in the southern country of Namibia. I lived in Namibia, Africa for almost three years. The first two years were as a volunteer and the final months were as a Training Coordinator for new volunteers. I was responsible for meeting with Peace Corps and government officials in order to write a training manual for the new volunteers and to carry out training as a Training Director. I came back home, but got the chance to go to Zimbabwe to train their new volunteers. I lived in Zimbabwe for 4 months. Being a Peace Corps Volunteer changed my life in a very profound way. Please visit my "Peace Corps Volunteer" page if you're interested in seeing more.
After Peace Corps, I moved to Anchorage, Alaska and taught 4th grade for three years. I missed Montana, so moved back to my original home state where my family and I have lived ever since. Before teaching 4th grade at Lakeside, I taught 7th grade language arts for 9 years at Somers Middle School.
I'm lucky to be a part of such an exceptional school district. I live in Ferndale and should send my kids to Bigfork or Swan River school. However, I know the high standards the teachers hold for students in the Somers/Lakeside district and because of that, my family and I drive 30 minutes one-way for the privilege to come to Lakeside.
Please feel welcome in our classroom!
Please call (844-2208) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have any questions or concerns.
I appreciate every day I spend with your students as they grow and become independent thinkers and problem solvers.
Let's grow together this year!
