Mustang Kids’ Club

21st Century Community Learning Center

 

 

            Welcome to a new year in the Somers School District!  Once again the district is able to provide a low-cost before and after-school care program through the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. 

 

The goals of the program are threefold:

  1. Improve student-learning performance, of student of all ages, in core academic areas.
  2. Offer a broad array of high-quality activities that reinforce and complement the school day and positively affect school attendance and academic performance.
  3. Provide programming to engage families to enhance the home/school relationship.

 

Before School

 

The before-school program meets at the Lakeside School from 7:30 - 8:30, Monday through Friday.  This program provides students with the opportunity to complete homework with assistance and play academic and creative games to reinforce skills to transition to the school day.  Students may participate in the school’s breakfast program; arrangements for breakfast must be made through each school’s front office.

 

After School

The after-school program meets at the Somers Middle School from 3:30 – 6:00, Monday through Friday.  All students are provided a healthy snack. 

 

  • Monday through Thursday:

3:30 – 3:50  -  healthy snack and free play

3:50 – 4:30  -  homework zone and tutoring

4:30 – 5:30 - choice enrichment activity (Students choose from a rotating selection of courses)

·         Art/drama

·         Science explorations

·         Technology: movie making, music production, photography, and LEGO  robotics

·         Health: fitness, health, and nutrition

·         Nature studies

·         Destination Imagination

5:30 – 6:00 – clean up and dismiss to parent or guardian

 

  • Fridays are game days.

 

The cost of the program is $20 per student per year.  Scholarships are available – please contact the Program Director, Cary Richardson (857-3661).

 

Parent volunteers are greatly appreciated and needed!  Please call Cary Richardson if you have any questions regarding programming or if you would like to volunteer with the program.

   

All forms must be completed and returned to your school’s main office before your child(ren) may participate in the program(s).  The after-school program begins on Tuesday, September 4th.  The before-school begins on Tuesday, September 4th at 7:30
