board meeting

Greetings Families,

The Somers District 29 Board of Trustees met on November 20th. The previous meeting’s minutes were approved. A public comment was made by K. Reece, who expressed gratitude for the generosity of students and families in celebrating World Kindness Day with donations.

Superintendent Price reported on new legislation that could help the district implement an early literacy program and/or summer jumpstart program at the elementary level. Staff will be meeting to discuss its viability in our district in the coming months. Principal Broyles expressed gratitude for a wonderful Veterans Day assembly honoring those in our community and an excellent and dedicated group of staff members who continue to go above and beyond in educating and caring for the students. She also noted that the recent professional development teachers attended was especially applicable for her staff as they navigate the varied needs of the kids.

In accordance with Section, 2-3-203, MCA which protects an individual’s right to privacy, trustees moved into executive session to discuss the resignation of a staff member. When trustees returned to open session, the board acknowledged the resignation as noted on the agenda. The board and administration are committed to finding ways to meet the growing needs of the district, fill staffing vacancies, and meet the needs of students.

District Clerk, D. Taylor provided a monthly budget report, aligning with trustee goals to “improve oversight of and visibility to district budget and financial decisions.” Trustees also briefly reviewed board goals and are in the process of making them more visible by adding them to the district website. The goals can be accessed from our home page at somersdist29.org by clicking “Menu” and “School Board Information.”  The goals are listed under “School Board Documents” on the right side of the page.

Expenses and payroll were approved, and the meeting adjourned at 7:35 PM.

We hope to see you at one of the many events this holiday season.

The next meetings are as follows:
